“Oh, what a tangled web we weave, when first we practice to deceive!”

It starts with one simple lie—and from there, a story unravels of a woman who suddenly realizes she’s been cast as a supporting character in a life meant to be her own starring role.

Though the first half moves slowly, like a stroll through a garden, the pace shifts sharply into an Olympic sprint. LaRue’s detailed character work—both in physical allure and emotional complexity—adds richness to the unfolding drama. While the writing is occasionally repetitive, the suspense kept me turning pages. And that ending? Worth every second.

Catherine’s journey reminded me of Edna Pontellier in The Awakening—only darker, bolder, and spicier. A woman who dares to chase what (and who) she wants, no matter the cost.

If you're into dark romantasy, forbidden desires, and obsession-fueled thrillers, this one's for you.

The best part? Part 2—Shadows of the Forsaken—is ready to download. Don’t walk. Run.
