From the moment I saw this novel at the library, I fell in love with it. The illustrations and themes were promising, and I read it in an hour, losing track of time. This part of history has always been interesting and unfortunately quite unspoken about, especially in France, where I live.
The low note can be exclaimed by the author and illustrator of the book : white men.
I'm not against teaching subjects to people when you are not personally concerned by it, but the use of the n-word every page was definitely wrong and horrific when looking at the two white authors.
I also feel like the book could've gone deeper, it felt poor in a lot of ways, but overall it was a nice read.
