Good Girl, Bad Blood by Holly Jackson

Woohhhh!!!

This book was AWESOME! I was a little afraid initially because it's so rare that a sequel comes near as good as its predecessor. But this one does, and maybe even tops the first one!

I've been having trouble recently with my reading slump, but once I got going and really focused on this book, it was impossible to stop. I stayed up late last night until almost 2am to finish reading, and I don't think any book has ever done that to me in these past months.

The story picks up from where the first book ends, and there is no dilly-dallying. Straightaway we are reminded of the horrible murders that happened in Little Kilton. Then here, the brother of Pip's close friend goes missing. Another mystery for Pip to solve.

And so the tension was already there from the very beginning of the book. But, it really started to get terrifying around the halfway mark, when Pip receives a reply from Layla Mead. My jaw literally dropped.

Carrying on, we get to the end of Chapter 36. At this point, I was suspicious of a few people, ones that hasn't really caught Pip's attention: Harry and Mary Scythe, Charlie and Flora Green.

In fact, I was pretty convinced that Child Brunswick was Charlie Green. Because who goes out to take their trash out at night, and then talk to a girl drenched in rainwater at his front porch, right? (Though if Charlie turned out to be ok, this was perfectly fine behaviour). So this little bit of dialogue between Charlie and Pip stayed at the back of my mind. Added with the fact that Charlie and Flora came to this town to get away from the past, or something like that?

However, we find out that Child Brunswick is actually Stanley Forbes. Whaaa?? A shocking revelation, but one that makes sense when explained.

But THEN Layla Mead comes out onto the stage too, as none other than... Charlie Green. So I was half right. He does have something to do with it all. Again, it all makes sense when explained. The thing I'm still confused about is how Layla/Charlie knew it was Pip who sent the Instagram DM.

Anyways, that was a thrilling ride. Sorry I'm not great at concluding remarks.

The ending of the book didn't feel "final". Pip still has trauma and maybe frustration too. So I thought, and later confirmed, that there is going to be a third book. It's coming out soon, and I'm SO EXCITED.
