The Demon King by Cinda Williams Chima
2.0

Yeah, so, the summary of this book made me expect to like it a lot more than I did. The thing about this book was that it was SO. BORING. There was absolutely 0 plot, more of a series of events of these people's lives, and the two main characters had nothing to do with each other. Speaking of the characters, I didn't like either Raisa or Han. I didn't dislike them either. They (along with all the side characters) fell completely flat, with nothing to grow attached to. The lack of plot and boring characters essentially made for a book that just dragged on. Reading it became something of a chore, because I refuse to DNF and I have a ton of other books I want to read. Also it was JUST interesting enough that I wanted to get to the end in the hopes that it would get better and set up something I'd want to rear for the rest of the series. And even though some could argue that it ended well and ready for the series, by then I was so bored that i just wanted to be done with it, and I can't even bring myself to care. I will probably not be continuing with the series, even though I probably should because it might get better but... I just don't want to. Nothing about this book has me motivated to keep reading. I don't even really care how it turns out or whether or not it actually gets any better.

I was debating whether or not to give this book 2 or 3 stars, because I've given better books a 3, and 2 seems harsh because I didn't dislike it. It's hard for me to even describe the sheer amount of indifference I feel for the book. If I owned a dictionary I'd put this book next to the word "meh" I went with 2 because I don't think I've ever given a rating of 2 and my 3 stars are usually for books that are like "it was okay... I liked it... but it just didn't hit the spot, and will not be memorable in a month from finishing" and this book is not even that. I have nothing good or bad to say about it. The only reason I'm even writing a review for The Demon King is because I felt the need to express how much I didn't care (because I can't think of a time this has ever happened before).

Maybe the wording of this review is pretty harsh, but... honestly... I really don't care. I feel like based on the summary, this book had the potential to be SO much more than it is. And don't even get me started on the title, which definitely isn't fitting for the book.
