The War I Finally Won by Kimberly Brubaker Bradley
4.0

No one scene in this book was quite as profound as my favorite scenes from its predecessor, but overall, I think it felt more coherent, more convincing, and more satisfying at the end. So many kudos to Kimberly Brubaker Bradley for digging deep into childhood trauma and neglect and the many ways in which it can manifest. How I loved reading a story about a character who didn't just "get over it" in a moment of sudden epiphany, a character whose grief was not always obviously sympathetic but often hostile or even cruel, a character whose twisted beliefs were embedded so deeply into her that they couldn't be disentangled from the truth. I'm very glad I found these two books.
