Normal People by Sally Rooney

3.0

Why did I give this book 3 stars and add another Rooney book to my library? Because reading the book I could tell my problem wasn’t her writing, it was the story. So I’m hoping I like that one better.

I just couldn’t enjoy this one as much as I wanted to. I feel like I was carried through the story, and yet sometimes I had to fight to continue reading. I fell asleep a lot while reading this book(It took me like 3 DAYS!!)
And now at the end I’m asking myself “what was that for?”

What was the point of everything? They’re not good together, they’re not good apart. What is this relationship? Why doesn’t he recommend therapy to her? Why don’t they try therapy together? She’ll do anything he says, he cares for her, what’s he doing FOR her though?

I’m not saying he’s to be responsible for her but that leads to my previous question again, what is this relationship? As friends, you’d want the best for your friend, no? Was this really their best attempt?

I hope it doesn’t sound like I don’t like Connel. I empathise with both of them at times, but I don’t like them. Sue me (maybe don’t
