Good courtroom drama spoiled by misogyny and the male gaze

The core story here is a blend of personal redemption and courtroom strategy - sort of like My Cousin Vinny without the comedy.

But a lot of the plot is ruined by the vulgar thoughts and actions of the many male characters, both good and evil, interrupting what is otherwise a page turning read. Unfortunately, the numerous and gratuitous mentions of the men's sexual urges, as well as depictions of rape, serve to unnecessarily derail and distract from the primary themes of the narrative.
