Qualify by Vera Nazarian

5/5 Stars

This is another one of those books that I wish I could give more stars to. I absolutely loved everything about this book.

First off, we'll start with the plot. The year is 2047 and Earth is about to be hit by an asteroid in 15 months. Humans descended from the Ancient Atlanteans come from another planet and say that they can save a small percentage of the population-those few between 12 and 19 who Qualify. Gwen Lark is a sixteen year old girl who must Qualify in order to live. This novel follows her and her fellow competitors (including her own siblings) as they try to further their lives.

Intriguing yes? And damn, it's such an awesome sci-fi/dystopian plot. This was one of those plots that you think you know what will happen, but a twist comes that completely throws you off. Seriously, when a book has me gushing to myself while I'm at work (because that was legit me the last couple days), it's really amazing.

Plus, the way Vera Nazarian writes Gwen's POV is awesome. It really reads as if a teenage girl is rambling and explaining her life. Most first person novels tend to occasionally lack in that area. But you are still able to get the feeling of all the characters and Gwen's opinions in this novel.

Not only were the characters written beautifully, but the scenes were phenomenal. Especially when describing the Atlantean tech and sci-fi aspects. This civilization (which could actually potentially exist) was written in a realistic way. And you can easily e=imagine the actions, areas, and whatnot in the novel.

But goddam that ending. God freaking damn! I need to buy the next one! (And will be as soon as I finish this review). I highly recommend this book. It is long but it is completely worth the length.
