I first read this book back in 2011, and really enjoyed it. I decided to reread it before continuing the trilogy. I'm glad I did; I had forgotten some of the more subtle aspects of the book. In particular, I'm glad that the book made use of shades of grey and didn't have a very obvious distinction between "good guy" and "bad guy." The "bad" guy's point of view was somewhat understandable and the "good" guys had all done some not-so-great things. It was that complexity that bumped this book up from okay to very good.
