Psycho by Robert Bloch
5.0

A great little novel that packs a great punch, regardless of whether the plot has already been spoiled for you. I tried to listen to this pretending like I didn’t know the epic twist and was impressed by the depth of insinuation early on in the book. It is straightforward in telling you everything without giving itself away in the least. If I hadn’t known the big twist, this book would easily recommend itself to a swift reread.

Psycho stands firmly in the gap between the demented narrator in Shirley Jackson’s We Have Always Lived In A Castle and the psychological torment of Stephen King’s Misery. It keeps a fast pace and remains an ideal read for anyone interested in the dark side of a psychological breakdown.
