I really enjoyed this historical fiction turn from Kristin Hannah but felt the pacing was inconsistent. There was a slow, steady build that lead the ending to feel somewhat rushed. The characterizations felt genuine and were nuanced enough to feel life like. Depression era, dust bowl heartache with the primary relationship actually between a mother and child, which was refreshing.
