It's been a while since I've seen a book so highly talked about and praised while simultaneously being dragged to filth. Honestly, it's annoying and confusing because I agree with various opinions on either side. Rereading this book, what struck me the most and made me rate it lower was the dialogue and certain interactions that felt too juvenile and lacked depth.

When I first read this book, I was just getting back into reading after not doing so for a few years, and maybe that played a bigger role because I was so immersed in the story and enjoying the vibes that I didn't pay much attention to anything else.

The dialogue felt too reminiscent of a college sports romance. Violet just couldn't keep it in her pants for a single chapter. I get it, Xaden is Xaddy, but guurl, come on. I'm honestly wondering if that's something that will come up later because she already felt Xanden's presence before their bond, and they're too horny for one another. The interaction with the dragons, while very entertaining, just felt too surface level. We were told the bond was strong, but I would much prefer to have it shown. Violet and Tairn didn't have a single long conversation, and that lack of connection was missing.

I wish Xaden's bonus chapters weren't just part of a special edition, simply because before reading them, I had a hard time believing they were enemies to lovers. The lust was so constantly present that I believed him to be whipped from the start and pretended to be her enemy when he never really was. So, to read that he did view her as an enemy before his attraction to her became too prevalent, was something the book needed.
I think I could read an entire book of him insulting Dain.

In the end, I really don't give a flying fuck that this is just a compilation of a lot of "tired tropes" because I'll eat that shit up every. single. time.
