Rapunzel and the Lost Lagoon by Leila Howland
4.0

TL;DR Review: A must read for fans of Tangled looking to get into the show or simply learn more about the friendship between Cassandra and Rapunzel. It’s a great introduction that shows their dynamic and sets the pieces for the big twist in the second season, while also showing just how important each character is to the other.

Content Warnings: Anxiety, Mild Violence.

”It looked as though we were dancing through the air - together and free.”

Full Review - Contains Spoilers:

This book is made to be read before fans watch the series - it introduces fans to the relationship dynamic of Rapunzel and Cassandra in a fun and cute way that left a huge smile on my face. At the same time though, it also plays a huge role in showing how their friendship developed and Cass’s lack of trust in people, even once she knows them.

For those that read this novel, it’s easy to see why Cassandra’s character developed as she did in the series. In her own way, she has always been waiting for Rapunzel to fail her as a friend and go back to the excuse of why she does not need anyone in her life. She is quick to dismiss everyone in Corona as being less than her on many fronts, seeing her own Worth only in her physical prowess, rather than as a person.

I think at the end, this book really shows the dynamic between Rapunzel and Cass in a way that was not fully fleshed out in the television show, due to it picking up after the start of their friendship. Here we get to see the insecurities between them both and how Cass pushes Rapunzel away many times throughout their journey together. Its a story of love and how much they both grow to mean to one another, with Rapunzel wearing her heart on her sleeve, while Cass learns to trust. It’s a great look into their character development and a must read before getting into the show!

Also, not gonna lie, this book comes off as very romantic between Rapunzel and Cassandra, something I adore. It really shows their growing affection for one another, but also doesn’t push Eugene away from Rapunzel at all, which I appreciate since I love both ships. Seriously though, this book feels very much like it wants you to ship the leading ladies.
