At a first glance you'd be forgiven for thinking this was a poetry book, for it certainly looks like one.  It's not technically, but the words certainly flow like poetry, it's so beautifully written, and also so painfully raw. I really liked how some phrases were repeated throughout the book. Eg "Told you she was sassy" when talking about her mum, it added a real level of comfort somehow.

Sara, My Sara  is an absolutely beautiful book where the author has poured all her hurt, love and loss onto the pages. I really felt that I was on the journey with Florence, her Mum and Sara, despite not knowing any of them. Florence's beautiful writing really bought them all to life. And the experience of being in England for the covid lockdowns bought back all too easily the surreal uncertainties of that time.

The imagery of the sorrow bird really resonated with me, and whilst the original idea of that may have been Astrid Lindgren's, Florence really captured it's essence, and how grief feels.

But this isn't just a story about loss. it's also about the gifts we find when we experience a loss.  Be that new, or deeper friendships. Or the courage to go on an adventure. Or the gift of a book that you can write and share with others. Thank you Florence for sharing your Sara with us. I've cried reading this book, but I've also found healing in its pages.

I can see myself returning to parts of this book time and time again, and have already bookmarked some of my favourite passages.
