The Grim Grotto by Lemony Snicket

5.0

The Slippery Slope was a little bit... slippery. But thankfully, it is not a curse of a longer book. This one brings the series right back up to its peak, with even more double crossing characters, moral quandaries, information about VFD and its complex history, and deliberation over what exactly makes people good or bad.

By this point there is no denying the weight behind the series. It's no longer just a simple plot of protecting the fortune from Olaf's evil schemes. But then, at the same time... it is just that. It's taking place in a wider context.

And then, of course, the last page, which proves to us that the series is heading towards a dramatic denouement.
