This was rather depressing and I was frustrated by the ending.

When Stanley's older brother explained how their father had put their family first in a similar situation, I thought for sure that Stanley would see the light and put his family first. But no, a kind soul in the army had to provide him with an honorable release from his duty.

Although I've enjoyed several of her books, I need to take a break from this author for a while.
