Jack Kennedy: Elusive Hero by Chris Matthews
5.0

This book was magnificent. Simple as that.

Most people know how much I love JFK. This book has further solidified my affection for our 35th president. The thing that makes this novel better than other Kennedy biographies, in my opinion, is how Matthews attempts to answer the question of who Kennedy was when the politics and the name were stripped away. The answer to this is found in how he lived - the books he read as a young student who spent the majority of his days in a hospital bed, his time in the Pacific with the men of PT-109 (a story that is almost impossible to fathom). The "stuff" of Jack Kennedy is also found in how he ran a political campaign, the grassroots and heavy reliance on personal connections that made him so likable and made people vote for him.

In short, if anyone wants a close, personal look at JFK's life, and what made his legacy so great, one should pick this up and give it a read.
