This was a conflicting read for me. It took way too long to understand just the basic premise of the book, the marketing done for it was also more of detrimental than helpful, the pacing was decent however it had moments that either went too fast or too slow, and the prose was so flowery that it was a hindrance in the first est. 50% or so. BUT! I found my self engaged and entertained, especially as I started to understand the world, characters, and premise more. The bones were cool, the magic system was sick (both in terms of coolness and grossness), and I wish it lived up to its marketing: LESBIANS. If something is marketed to me as being 'gay' 'queer' 'lesbian' etc. I want it to deliver, otherwise, just keep quiet and let the reviewers and readers find out the character is gay because it plays no important part of the story line - I don't think it should be used to sell the book. This type of marketing is queer baiting and disappointing, I hope the next books that follow are 100% more gay.
