This is the sequel and conclusion (I think) to 2023's most excellent "I Feed Her to the Beast and the Beast Is Me." While the first one was a tale about pride and ambition and the lengths people will go to achieve their dreams, this one is about recovering from PTSD caused by the climax of the first, as well as discovering your identity when your identity was so wrapped up in your ambitions that when those ambitions are destroyed there's nothing left. It's about reconnecting with the world, your friends, and just people in general. The main character goes from being empty and listless to fully embracing who (and what) she is, even if what she is isn't very nice.

There's a fair amount of horror in this book. The main cast are monsters of one sort or another but they don't bemoan their condition. It's not that kind of book. They're not really horrible people, but they're certainly not that saintly. It starts slow, and small until it ramps up to its Lovecraftian conclusion which, you know, is the kind of thing that I love. I really recommend checking this series out. Five stars.
