challenging dark medium-paced

Unlike many essay collections, which are just collections of published essays with no guiding theme other than "these are things I think about", this collection has a very strong thematic throughline. This is also what makes it tough to read in large chunks (at least for me) - because it's about the looping of abusive relationships and situations and how hard it is to break free from it. So: a very successful book, beautifully written, hurt my heart and brain. I was truly impressed with the longest piece in the collection that shows time as meaningless. I've never read anything like it.
