Fastest Things on Wings: Rescuing Hummingbirds in Hollywood
by Terry Masear
Fascinating glimpse into the life of Terry Masear, a rehabber in Los Angeles, a place dense with urban hummingbirds. Whoa - her work is INCREDIBLE. I had no idea hummingbird rehabbers existed. Logically, of course they do, but I'd never considered it. I really struggled to understand how she worked as a professor AND managed to rehab hundreds hummers every breeding season (talk about selfless). Truly amazing humans doing truly difficult (yet rewarding) work.
This further reiterated that I must be better at cleaning my hummingbird feeders and instead of even having hummingbird feeders, I should just plant more flowers for them (they do LOVE the Peacock Flower. I need to trim it back a smidge this fall to promote even more growth next spring. An Anna's has claimed it as hers, of course, she has to share it with sparrows, finches, warblers, and verdins.)
