Three words come to mind when I think of this book... Unsettling, disturbing and unbelievable.
From the reasons of people being in Broadmoor, which can be from such smaller things such as Burglary or Arson to bigger things such as Homicides/Double Homicides and being of course being an extremely violent person with mental health difficulties.
Some big names such as the notorious gangster Ronnie Kray, the Yorkshire Ripper Peter Sutcliffe and even bad man Charles Bronson.
Disturbing facts and truths come alight in this book from the horrible acts of Jimmy Savile sexually assaulting female staff and female patients (which was before Broadmoor became an all male facility), assault on doctor's, nurses and security guards. Patients having hardcore porn, drugs and alcohol in their rooms, disgustingly even child abuse videos, children and women's underwear and beastiality videos. Even a child being brought in to visit a convicted peadophile which was never reported to the police until a staff member see the child in their underwear sitting on the patients knee. To the way some of the patients have died, such as being injected with an antipsychotic to calm them down when they are rowdy or being restrained by security.
I thought I new quite a bit about Broadmoor but it turns out there was a lot I didn't know. You never know what truly goes on behind closed doors.
