I was very excited to finally read this book, but was very disappointed to find that Jean Brodie is such a selfish, manipulative person. Yes, not all fiction is sunshine and rainbows, but when I read about someone this twisted (all the while proclaiming how devoted she is, as though she isn't purposely trying to manipulate them for her own means) that is definitely going to affect my enjoyment of the book.
Bleh.
I did like the way the author would suddenly throw in information about the far future - it gave extra flavor to the parts about the present day and made the story come together in an interesting way.
