The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society
by Annie Barrows, Mary Ann Shaffer
I LOVE this book. It was one of those that you hate to finish because you don't want it to be over. Wonderful characters, funny and witty writing, as well as some very sad parts. A good book to broaden your understanding of WW II, and how it affected so many people...civilians, parents, children. I love books that help you remember that even though some people behaved so inhumanely, there were others like the character of Elizabeth: "she held on hard to her kindness and her courage." Thank goodness for the Elizabeth's in the world.
After reading Wurthering Heights, a character in the book named Isola says, "Reading good books ruins you for enjoying bad books." So true! This book feels like a perfect example of this.
** Loved this book just as much the second time around.
** Just finished listening to this on audiobook. It was extremely well done.
