A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas

4.0

Okay, I have such conflicting feelings about this read. Firstly, I did really enjoy the book for the most part and found it entertaining though at times cheesy and terribly drawn out. I found myself liking Lucien best, but eventually Rhysand became a favorite of mine as well. Also, I guessed the riddle immediately (it was so cheesy  I thought I couldn’t possible be correct). I thought the book was well paced and I enjoyed the writing for the most part. I will say it did remind me at first of Game of Thrones in some ways when the world building was happening in the beginning (tree gods, the war, the wall, etc felt like a Northern history book from the Stark library). Overall, it was a very easy read and took maybe a few days for me to read in total (I took time off in the middle).

Lastly, I found out the author was problematic mid-read (zionist, potential plagiarism issues, etc). While this hasn’t changed my rating or my feelings of the story (why would it? i already bought the book so..), it has made me decide to not buy anymore of her books in the future. I don’t currently plan on finishing this series, but if I do it will be done with library copies only.
