boy, what does one say about this one. First off, HUGE TRIGGER WARNING for 2 very violent and graphic r*pe scenes. and at least 3 scenes graphic physical assault scenes.

My first gripe is that i was in no way prepared for the violent sexual/physical assaults that were going to unfold on the page - i expected/assumed her trauma would be something in her past she had to work through with August, not something that we actively experienced along w her.

My 2nd gripe is that this book felt more like a trauma/trauma recovery book than a romance. they don’t even have their first official meeting as singles until 70% into the book!

other small gripes are more personal preferences: i don’t really like stories with huge time jumps, as i feel like it rushes the story and growth. And it felt so sappy and sentimental, in an unearned way. like, it’s basically love at first sight and all the sappy emotions they pour out don’t seem earned? like, not authentic, bc they literally just met this person. her writing seems to really lean into the soulmates mentality and while i’m not against that, it just feels like a shortcut to building those connections and emotions “naturally.”
