The Ministry of Time
by Kaliane Bradley
The concept? Really cool, really interesting. There is so much to be unpacked about these time-travelled refugees in contemporary Britain, and I just wish more time was spared for this.
The writing was… okay. Some metaphors sounded nice, but in reality had little meaning or, worse, were actually nonsensical, which left the prose feeling a bit haphazard.
I think the romance dragged the story down for me. A small romance as a tiny sub-plot would have been fine, but it took up such a large portion of the plot that all the parts of the narrative that were most interesting to me were sacrificed.
So much was revealed at the end but then there was too little time to actually unpack. Maybe leaving room for a sequel?
An interesting book nonetheless and I enjoyed the first half in particular.
