The Damned by Renée Ahdieh
3.0

gotta be honest I thought this was going to be a duology but I’m quite happy to read more about celine and bastien in the future.

I did really enjoy this book, I loved that more “fantasy”-characters come into play in this book and that the vampire aspect is truly finally explored. I also really enjoyed that the rivalry between the court of lions and the brotherhood was put more to the forefront.
However, I did feel like a lot of the story was just the book dumping information on me without any rhyme or reason as to why it was important at that time. Sometimes it felt like this book was just meant to set up the next book as, in my opinion at least, there was hardly anything truly happening. Even the “conflicts” between and within the characters seemed to be solved way to quickly and easily, which was super disappointing.

Despite all this ‘the damned’ was an incredible read. Renee Ahdieh’s writing is phenomenal and the atmosphere that the book created was absolutely perfect for this novel, it was chilling and mysterious and oh-so-sexy.
