This book pleasantly surprised me, I had just finished reading another 'summer camp' romance book but this one gave me the feelings I wanted from the previous book (which I didn't get). The setting of Camp Carl Cove did feel real, I felt like I could instantly envision the camp setting and the locations pretty vividly. The characterisation was diverse and felt genuinely authentic, I enjoyed reading from Garland's POV and felt she had a very realistic character arc. I thought Stevie was brilliantly written. Exactly what I wanted from a rom-com. There is spice in this book (albeit not tonnes) and I thought it led up to it very nicely. I always find myself a bit disconnected from "insta-love" in any romance book I read and as this book only takes place over one week - I found that aspect of the novel one of the only reasons I am not rating this higher. I enjoyed the found family aspects of this book and also enjoyed the sister relationship between Dara and Garland.
Considering I picked this book up from my local library on a complete whim because the cover looked cool, I'm definitely feeling chuffed I got to read a very enjoyable, light-hearted book without paying a single penny for it. Support your local libraries people!
