Angels Before Man by rafael nicolás

2.5

In some ways, Angels Before Man felt more like an aesthetic experience than a complete novel.

The interpretation of Christian mythology is dope. The strongest parts of the book were in the first half, where have these kind of tableaus of life in heaven. I would definitely read more stories set in this world (ideally in graphic novel form).

There is some potential to ask some really interesting questions (about the nature of sin especially), but the book just doesn’t dive all that deep. I also found Lucifer’s arc to be a bit abrupt and perhaps a little forced. In general, the pacing never feels quite right.

There are all the bones of something truly awesome, but not enough flesh and grit.
