battaglia 's review for:
Wolves of the Calla
by Stephen King
The more I read of the Gunslinger series, the more I like it. It is by far my favourite Stephen King work, and I am going to be very, very sorry to read the last page of the last volume. Roland Deschain in particular is a character that fascinates me. All of the "Western" elements of the story, a genre that I don't pay much attention to, actually make the whole work richer and more detailed. The characters feel fuller, more developed. Like all King protagonists, the gunslingers are seriously flawed, but none so much as Roland. Also, in this particular volume, extending the story of Father Callahan from 'Salem's Lot actually ties in the work to King's significant output of work and you're left wondering how many other references he's included. Like I said, I can't wait to finish it, but I'm going to hate the fact that it'll be over.
