I didn’t know what to think when I started this book, but I ended up struggling to keep with the buddy read schedule.

I loved the magic system (and that spell casting rules are at the top of chapters) and how we see them in real time.

I love deception and Rune and Gideon are wonderful in their attempts.  The characters are flushed and the book contains great moments between characters besides our love interests!

What didn’t work for me is that we never see the Crimson Moth actually succeed in rescuing witches which I think would have worked.
As well, Gideon exhausted me at times, especially towards the end. 

Overall I can’t wait for the sequel.
