This is a slow burn but I trust Erdrich.  Originally the story appears to be about a young man’s crush on a young woman but in Erdrich‘s hands, it becomes a smooth dive into character and the interplay between the choices we make and fate. Issues of culture and history are addressed through the every day lives of the characters.
