mediocre 's review for:
The Meme Machine
by Susan Blackmore
Very interesting read, very clear and systematic approach to the subject, which I haven't really encountered before. In the first part, the explanations about what are memes and their manifestations tend te become a bit repetitive. Yet I understand the importance of a good understanding, especially for the second part.
The second part is in my view the more philosophical part, dealing with the implications of memetics as a second replicator system beside genetics. I found this even more interesting than the first part. I was particularly taken back by Blackmore's views on religion as a memeplex, the internet and the selfplex.
I don't think I'm quite done on the subject just yet.
