If someone asks me how are bengalees, what kind of lives they lead on, how was old Kolkata, I'll tell him to read this book. Amit chaudhuri has captured the very essence of the core of bengalees and kolkata through his characters. But I as a bengalee know all the intricacies and feelings of this bengali culture. Naturally I felt a little bored and was confused at the myriads of characters and their lineage. I could hardly distinguished between khuku and Bhaskar's maa, Bhola's maa etc. They all seemed one person to me. But I can attest to the fact that the book is written beautifully.
