I'm Not Scared
by Niccolò Ammaniti
This is a book club book and I have read it before. I really enjoy the setting, I don't read many books set in 1970s' Italy, and I find the characters interesting. There is something lacking, I suppose, in the book as a whole. I wonder why Michele doesn't, as an adult, make any judgement on his actions as a child, and after mentioning a couple of things he has done as an adult, at the end we are given no clue how he grew up after the events he is recounting.
I am left wondering what happened to Filippo and Michele's father, too. There is a nasty sense of foreboding as I read this book and, while won't say that I didn't enjoy it at all, I think I was underwhelmed.
