The Sign of Four by Arthur Conan Doyle

mysterious tense fast-paced
  • Plot- or character-driven? A mix
  • Strong character development? No
  • Loveable characters? It's complicated
  • Diverse cast of characters? It's complicated

Solid meh. Just didn't hold my attention the way other Holmes stories have, and the racism made it difficult to enjoy. I know, I know: it was a different time! Language has evolved! Etc etc. But however true those defenses may be, it didn't make reading this any more fun.

Looking forward to moving on to a different Holmes adventure. Their characters remain fascinating and adaptable all these decades later for a reason.
