Don't Look for Me by Wendy Walker

4.0

Reeling from the loss of her 9 year old daughter and her family being torn apart in the aftermath, Molly Clarke decides to walk away from her life. She believes her husband doesn’t love her anymore and that her kids are embarrassed by her and hate her. She can’t take the guilt she feels - knowing she’s responsible for her daughter’s death.

When her car runs out of gas on Route 7 during a hurricane, Molly decides to abandon it and just walks away from her life, with her purse but not her cellphone. She doesn’t make it very far before she realizes this is a bad idea. Where would she even go?

She is flooded with relief when a passing truck comes to her rescue. She just wants to get home, back to her family, but this good samaritan has other plans for her.

The story is told from Molly’s perspective and that of her daughter. Molly’s story begins on the night she disappeared until the day she is found. Her daughter’s timeline begins 13 days after her mom’s gone missing until the time she is found - when the two perspectives finally merge. This makes for an interesting and fun read.

Overall, this was a good read but the constant repetition made me want to stab my eyes out with a pencil. I don’t know how many times I had to read, “my husband doesn’t love me anymore,” and “my daughter hates me.” Oh and we must not forgot the fire wood in the fireplace. We get it - we got it! If every repeated notion/thought were taken out of this book it would be a little shorter.

This story was tense at times and completely irritating at others. Stupidity! However, I didn’t see those twists coming. It’s always a better story when you don’t see what’s coming.
