Trouble for Hire 1: No Escape From War
by Cynthia Eden
Warren "War" Channing is suspicious when the man who came between Rose Shadow and himself hires War to find Rose and force her to give herself up to the police, but War doesn't believe Rose is capable of murder, so he accepts the $20,000 finder's fee and goes after her. Rose knows she is on the radar of a serial killer. As an investigative reporter, she has tried and failed to discover enough clues to put the killer away before he kills two more women. However, she is determined to stay out of jail and find out who the killer is. It isn't long before War finds Rose, and it's clear that they will have to work together if they are going to solve this case and keep Rose safe.
No Escape from War is a very light romantic suspense. Although the ending provides some action and a twist, we never really learn the killer's motivation. Much of the dialogue in the book doesn't ring true and many of the situations are over the top. Even though the characters have been in a relationship together previously, when they reunite, it still feels too quick when conflicts and problems are easily overlooked. Also, it is difficult to connect with the characters, but the bedroom scenes are very steamy and well written. No Escape from War offers a few good elements, but overall, it isn't a strong read.
