The Color of Your Voice by Daniel Newwyn

5.0

The Color of Your Voice by Daniel Newwyn is a novella set in Vietnam that follows the parallel journeys of Violet Pham and Turner Nguyen. Daniel's writing is exceptional, and I finished this book in one sitting. Words fail me because this novella is so much more as it prods and questions the deep-rooted conventions of social class, gender expectations and mental illness. Violet and Turner are given a tough deck of cards in their life. Their ability to inspire and persevere despite this is authentically written. Both characters grew on me, and the haunting ending got to me. This book will have a lingering effect on reflection and introspection.

I received this copy from the author, and this honest review is left voluntarily.
