Seven Suspects by Renee James

3.0

An incredibly powerful narrative and point of view character. James really puts the reader in Bobbi's shoes and immerses you in the feeling of needing to be on guard at all times and getting constant intrusive thoughts as a result of ongoing trauma.

One of my favorite things in crime fiction is having a protagonist who you admire or wish you could emulate, at least when it comes to some characteristics. With Bobbi, I was in awe of her ability to actually sit across from people who hate her and who have nothing but venom for her, and face them (relatively) unflinchingly, to know that their hatred has nothing really to do with her.

The denouement of the book, sadly, felt like the completely wrong narrative choice to make. Not sure why the heroine (and the reader) needed to be subjected to more trauma.
