A Shot of Pretty Poison by Kelsey Clayton
5.0
The final chapter of Hayes' and Laiken's story starts with heartbreak and devastation. Two pages in and Kelsey is already pulling at the heartstrings.
We essentially pick up where the second book finished and boy was that a gut-wrenching cliff-hanger! Now there has been some considerable time that’s passed and poor Hayes is really struggling. He is angry. Kelsey captures this incredibly well and you can't help but feel sorry for Hayes. You feel his hurt, you feel his anger, his pain.
I really want to hate Laiken right now for everything Hayes has gone through without her. I don't feel sorry for her. On the surface, She has her dream job and has no clue what is going on in Hayes' life.
This third chapter, I felt, really focused on Hayes and what we was going through. We really got to understand him and what he felt and it was all valid. He didn’t understand why she left, only that she did.
It's not until something serious happens that Laiken returns and is met with a lot of hostility, and rightly so. You can feel the tension and the pain when she comes back because they don’t know if she is going to stay.
You can feel how torn Hayes is about having her back and what he should do. You feel as if you're a part of it and you're dealing with everything right alongside them. The depth of emotion and angst has your heart clench everything you turn the page.
This was a young couple in love, who had their world rocked. You would not fault Hayes for the way he felt. You felt as strongly as he did. As the story progressed, some of those hurt feelings thawed and they all came together to try work out who was behind it everything and tearing their lives apart.
We get to the point where all the pieces of the puzzle fall into place and you are on the edge of your seat wondering what is going to happen next.
While their story is over, I really do hope we get to Hayes, Laiken, Cam and Mali really soon!
Another great read by Kelsey Clayton! Thank you
