The King's Spinster Bride
by Ruby Dixon
adventurous
fast-paced
This was great!
I loved the historical/Viking vibes this novella gave. When you first hear about the marriage customs of the Hero’s culture they seem absolutely ludicrous. However, the world is well fleshed out by Dixon and therefore the ideas and customs felt like they made sense for the story’s setting.
I was pleasantly surprised that the heroine was actually older than the hero - this is the first story I’ve come across where this was the case.
The narrators did a fine job. I sometimes felt that they sounded a little stilted, which would take me out of the story, but quickly got past it each time.
Tropes:
👩🏼🦳older heroine
📜 marriage of convenience
🗡 barbarian romance
