Children of Ash and Elm: A History of the Vikings by Neil Price

adventurous challenging dark informative slow-paced

4.0

This was so in-depth. I felt like it covered everything and that I didn’t really know anything about the Vikings (except a bit of Norse mythology) before reading this book. It covered the etymology of words, foods they ate, customs and ceremonies they had, poems and stories they wrote, how they changed the world, and how the world changed them. My only critique of this book is that at times it really feels more like an info dump… very textbook-like. There were times I was bored to tears with this one, and it took forever to finish. But I also feel incredibly thankful to have learned so much. For the most part, it was fascinating.
