Hamnet by Maggie O'Farrell

Fictionalized portrayals of real people's lives and anything magicky in an otherwise realistic setting are two of my biggest pet peeves in novels, so I read the description of this book and thought I would absolutely hate it. Imagine my surprise when I finished it in about a day and immediately wanted to recommend this to everyone.

I found this to be an immediate favorite that didn't feel like it sensationalized or relied too heavily on the famous playwright at its center. This felt like it could've been its own independent novel without even having been inspired by Shakespeare's family life and I love that about it.
