Vicious by V.E. Schwab

4.0

"Vicious" by V.E. Schwab masterfully explores the world of superpowers, delving into the intricate complexities of power, morality, and revenge. The story centers on Victor and Eli, two college roommates who evolve from friends to fierce enemies. Both are brilliant, arrogant, and isolated, recognizing a shared ambition and sharpness in each other.

The book's fast-paced narrative, laced with themes of fantasy and violence, kept me thoroughly engaged. Schwab's unique portrayal of a villain's descent into villainy is particularly captivating. The characters are all antiheroes, with Victor standing out as an especially intriguing protagonist. Despite his questionable morals, I found myself rooting for him. Eli, the antagonist, is equally compelling, and his perspective adds depth to the story. Serena, arguably the story's most formidable villain, is someone I struggled not to despise.

I absolutely loved "Vicious" and regret not reading it sooner! It is a fantastic start to a gripping series, and I eagerly anticipate diving into its sequel, "Vengeful." The morally grey characters, captivating storyline, and the constant exploration of what is right and wrong made this a truly thrilling read!
