First off, this book has a LOT of content warnings in my opinion. I didn’t put pedophilia, but there’s allusions to it in the book and very clearly everyone is dealing with sexual and racial trauma. Secondly, Aster is effing AMAZING. She/They are autistic and I love the accurate representation; I felt very seen. The gender binary is smashed with the Black community in An Unkindness of Ghosts, children are collectively referred to as one specific pronoun depending on the decks/culture. It was tough to read because of the racism and at first hard to follow, but Rivers Solomon is a fantastic writer and I can’t wait to read everything they’ve ever written.
Moderate: Racism, Religious bigotry, Sexual violence, Sexual harassment, Body shaming, Bullying, Classism, Death, Lesbophobia, and Physical abuse
