nellebelle 's review for:
The Last Dragon of the East
by Katrina Kwan
adventurous
fast-paced
This book wasn't terrible, but I really wanted to like it more than I did, especially because I love the cover art and folklore.
It was written like a YA novel, which is okay, but the MC didn't work for me. His descriptions of how he feels about his fated one were overdone and his actions didn't always line up with his motivations. Also, Jyn kept gatekeeping his own history for no reason except "it's painful" (and I suppose so the author could "suspend the mystery" for the reader, even though it was obvious), and it only created more problems for them. The ending made me go, "Huh. Weird but okay." So take that as you will.
