These people were dealt a crappy hand. After dying you would think you would go somewhere, um, peaceful? To enjoy your after-life or whatever among your loved ones and favorite things? But I guess that could get boring pretty fast, and so in Reborn instead of a happy Heaven with harps you are sent to a fantastical, almost medieval at heart, world that is in turmoil. And who have they been waiting for this entire time to right their world's wrongs? Our special Bonnie of course. Which makes me wonder...
-Are all the after worlds tailor made to make each resident the hero of their story? Cause I see nothing that makes Bonnie special in any way to make her "the chosen one". Her "real world" life was pretty common, and even in this after world she is showing no heroic traits. But in After world, well, Bonnie is a super star. I guess we will be explained later.
-The most interesting part about this particular comic was when Bonnie reunites with her old friend, Estelle White. You remember Estelle, right? Christian old lady from #1 who was super prepared to die because she would go to Heaven and be reunited with her husband? Yeah, she does NOT like the "after-world" at all. She was dealt a very crappy hand indeed, making her one of the more interesting characters we have met so far. After landing in the After World she has basically adopted a "no fucks given" philosophy, and I highly dig it.
To be honest, Bonnie was more interesting as the old lady contemplating life than as the 20 something prodigy who is not asking any tough questions, other than where is mom and my dead husband (which I would ask too, but she was so much more interesting before). I hope she snaps out of her "I am pretty again and thus I have no need to be interesting phase" and starts giving us something to look forward to.
Status: Still interested, if slightly irritated with Bonnie.
PS; The cat at the end? PRICELESS. Gems like this keep me coming back for more.
