Shucked: Life on a New England Oyster Farm by Erin Byers Murray

5.0

Quick review: Do you like to eat oysters? Read this. Do you like New England AND oysters? Go on and put it on hold at your library. Have you had Island Creek Oysters (and love them)? Just go on and buy it.

Longer review: I first discovered this because after trying Island Creek oysters at a local sea-to-table restaurant, I wanted to know more and saw the book on their website. My goal is to take a farm tour this year, which may or may not happen, so I decided to read it now. It's a good balance of memoir and non-fiction (same yes but different!). We get to know the author enough to be able to imagine ourselves as readers in her position as a new farm worker.

My only issue is that I wish there were images throughout vs. at the end. I read the Kindle version so maybe it is throughout in the print edition? I think reading this will help me understand more of the farm tour whenever I do go.

I love oysters. I love Island Creek. I'm buying this book.
